Wellness Workshop
Do You Want To Live A More Balanced And Purposeful Life?
- Are you struggling with dysregulated emotions like anger, frustration, guilt, and shame?
- Does it often feel like your emotions dictate everything you do?
- Do you want to increase self-care without sacrificing your productivity?
Maybe you continually find yourself overreacting to difficult situations—you feel helpless to control your emotions and self-regulate when you’re overwhelmed. Perhaps your emotional challenges are starting to interfere with your work, health, and relationships. You might find yourself so strung out trying to achieve success and accolades that you have no room for rest or relaxation. As a result, it may feel like you’ve forgotten your values or you’re living in alignment with other people’s values instead of your own.
On the other hand, maybe you’re a leader in the workforce and mental health challenges are holding your team back from living up to their potential. Depression, anxiety, and other issues might be causing your employees to miss more workdays and fall behind on key projects. Perhaps you want to support them and invest in their emotional wellness, but you’re not sure where to start.
Whether you’re seeking help for yourself or your employees, I am confident that I can help. As the founder of The Middle Path, I offer wellness workshops that teach people how to increase their emotional intelligence, prioritize self-care, and lead more balanced and productive lives.
Questions about Wellness Workshops?
Mental Health Doesn’t Just Affect Individuals—It Impacts Whole Companies, Too
It’s no secret that mental health often has a direct impact on workplace productivity. In fact, according to a survey run by McKinsey’s Center for Societal Benefit through Healthcare, employees with anxiety or depression miss about six times more work days than those without mental health disorders. The same survey found that about 80% of workers with mental health disorders feel stigmatized because of their struggles (1).
Thankfully, there is a silver lining for those who want to support their struggling employees. Employers generally see a return of four dollars for every dollar invested in mental health care (2). And when workplaces make depression treatment part of their employees’ primary care, they reduce missed work days by an average of 30 percent (3).
Needless to say, organizations that take action toward improving mental health outcomes for their employees reap numerous rewards. They’re able to decrease absenteeism, increase productivity, and lower disability costs.
In my wellness workshops, I map out explicit ways that business leaders can help their employees better their mental health, empowering them to make their workplaces environments of support, understanding, and greater camaraderie.
What To Know About My Wellness Workshop
My wellness workshop is a four to six session course that can be hosted at libraries, workplaces, schools, and many other settings. Each session is about one to three hours long, and each workshop is customized to suit the needs of the attendees/organization involved.
My approach to wellness coaching is rooted in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an approach that seeks to help clients improve their mental health by addressing four areas: mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.
The core tenet or “dialectic” at the heart of DBT is that two seemingly opposing truths can exist simultaneously. Instead of bringing an “either/or” mindset to life, DBT teaches people to embrace a “both/and” mindset.
For instance, you can learn to both accept feelings of anxiety while still working to reduce their impact on your life. You can approach life with an attitude of mindful self-compassion without sacrificing your desire for change and growth. Stepping outside of this binary of choice is incredibly freeing, allowing you to improve your mental, emotional, and behavioral wellbeing.
What Topics We’ll Cover In My Wellness Workshop
The five main topics that we’ll cover in my wellness workshops include:
- Understanding the purpose of our emotions—Many of us go through life trying to avoid our emotions, but in doing so, we miss out on what they’re really trying to tell us. If we can change what we believe about certain emotions being “positive” or “negative,” we can do a better job of listening to what our emotions are trying to communicate.
- Figuring out if our emotions fit a given situation—Sometimes, we listen to our emotions as if they are facts. That’s why it’s important to evaluate whether our emotional reactions fit the facts of a given situation instead of our assumptions about it. Once we check the facts, we can change how we feel and respond to stressful situations in a healthier way.
- Problem solving to change emotions—When a situation produces painful emotions, it’s important to validate what we feel instead of trying to push our emotions down. This makes it easier to problem-solve and find healthier ways to regulate our emotions.
- Reducing vulnerabilities to intense emotions—Many of us are biologically more sensitive to extreme emotions or are simply used to being invalidated for how we feel. If we spend time taking care of our needs on a daily basis, we can reduce our vulnerabilities and be in a better space to handle life’s toughest challenges.
- Working toward authentic happiness—Oftentimes, we feel pressured into valuing work, achievement, and excellence when what we really value is connection, generosity, and joy. By aligning our actions with our values, we can make decisions that bring us closer to an authentic and fulfilling life.
By touching on all of these areas of skill-building in my workshop, I believe that you—and your team, if you’re seeking help for your organization—can ultimately overcome the emotional challenges you’re facing, increase your mindful self-compassion, and live with more pep in your step.
